Horror Classics Mystery Minis - Series 2 - Intro.

The success of Funko's Horror Classics Mystery Minis first series brought another series of little movie monsters. In 2015 Funko revealed Series 2 within their annual catalog. Below is a scan from that catalog:

This series took a step back from the more slasher-heavy line-up from the first series, heading more into the 'classics' side of the horror classics. Later that year in August, Funko officially revealed the promotional images (Source: https://funko.com/blogs/news/61021827-anime-and-horror):
Series 2 brought in the much beloved Universal Monsters into the mix, some horror comedy characters, and a few horror here and there. Just like the first series, there were a large variety of characters. Some of these characters have had little to no merchandise prior (American Werewolf, The Fly, The Lost Boys, etc.). Other characters didn't seem like they belonged, such as The Crow and Edward Scissorhands. The characters that stood out seemed to follow a trend that other companies did with their horror movie figure lines (McFarlane, etc.). In a way that made them quite a staple to horror movie monster figure line and were quite welcome!

When this series was released, one of the artists answered a question on the character decision process (Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/7GVUM4khn1/?taken-by=reisobrien):
xkull07: "When you make the designs for the figures do you have a list of characters that must be done for the box set? or do you come up with the list of characters that you want in the set?"
reisobrien: "@xkull07 We come up with a list of characters we already have the license for, which ones would be worth getting the license for and which ones we just think would look cool or be fan favorites."

One thing I completely overlooked was how Series 2 adapted the latest Funko Case situation: 12 Boxes per Case. Honestly I think this was a great change, because it allows people to buy most of the figures without breaking bank without any extras. This meant that you would get nine of the 1/12's, two of the 2/24's, and one of the 1/36 or 1/72. I would have preferred if they got rid of 1/72 altogether, but if that means more figures then I'll deal with it.

Later it was discovered Hot Topic released three exclusive figures to their store, replacing three others from the regular case. That brought Series 2 up to 20 figures in total (and up to 36 figures in total for the Horror Classics line)!

There was even a t-shirt promotional item that had characters like Pinhead and Zombie Ed on the front from San Diego Comic Con 2015. I regret passing that up when I had the chance. I found a picture of it, but not much about it online. Here is a picture I found from one of the artist's Instagram. Please let me know if anyone out there knows more about it or has a better picture!

I absolutely loved this series, maybe even more than the first! As later revealed in 2016, this series did well enough to warrant a third series of Horror Classics. I'll save for those for a later time since I haven't even started reviewing Series 2! Stay tuned for all those reviews in later Posts (Part 1 and Part 2), as we delve into the figures of monsters long known as icons in the legacy of horror movies! Muwahahahaha!
