Holiday Post: Halloween Toys 2018

Hello all,

It's Halloween night in 2018, so now I'm going to post some Halloween movie related toylines, including some lesser known ones! There are a lot out there, but I'll only be focusing on some big ones and obscure ones. I'll link to various blogs and resources for these figures. Please check them out if you want to learn more!
(Note: I posted this somewhere else in the past, but I'm in a rush so I'll just copy+paste what I said before...)

McFarlane's Movie Maniacs had a wide variety of figures over only a few years. Like all McFarlane figures, they were basically statues with a mild amount of articulation, focusing more on sculpts than anything.

When I started thinking about Halloween type posts, one of the first things that popped into my head was McFarlane's Movie Maniacs - Todd McFarlane that is.

For those of you not familiar with the man, Todd McFarlane got his start at Marvel comics where he quickly became one of the most recognized artists, and eventually landed his own Spider-Man series. From there, he moved on to become one of the most successful writers/artists/creators of the widely popular (at the time) Image Comics"

Another one is NECA Cult Classics which followed a similar trend to Movie Maniacs. There were plenty of horror, but it went into sci-fi and action movies as well. This evolved into more specific lines, like the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, and Predator lines you see today. There were also other ones like Hellraiser that ran for a bit as well.

"Cult classics come in many different genres - Horror, Comedy, Drama, Action, etc Be it big budget Hollywood blockbusters, or small, independent films, one can never tell what films are destined for this status quo among fans. It simply just happens.
The problem with cult classics is that while the films may go on to spawn several sequels, they don't necessarily have the "main" cast aspect to them that would garner the possibility of a toy line. Take for example your average slasher flick. Sure there are tons of actors in the film, but most of them are just fodder for the real star - The killer."
Here's a look into a few unreleased figures, including Samara and Zombie Ed.

SOTA toys made quite a few figures in the 2000's with their Now Playing series. These came from movies that had lesser known recognition in the mainstream, but just as loved (Killer Klowns, Toxic Avenger, etc.).

There were also several unreleased figures from SOTA, including a Graboid display!

Revoltech also released a few figures including a few characters like Jason, and the Fly Boy zombie. I can't find a good site that talks about their releases unfortunately...

Now to take a dive into a line I didn't know existed till about two years ago. Did you know Bandai released a line of chibi, eraser figures in 1987 of Universal Horror monsters? They were in a line called Horror World (and fetch a very pretty penny online apparently). There were all these figures listed and an unreleased one of the War of the Worlds alien. Here is a forum page that talks about these. I'm sure there are other resources out there too:

More pics from the line, and a pic of the unreleased figure.

Going back into the chibi side of things, Funko has made some POP figures of horror movie monsters, as well as my all time favorite line: Horror Classics Mystery Minis! The first series was released in late 2013/early 2014 and had two more series afterwards. These focused on a wide range of horror figures. Series 1 was more slashers, Series 2 more classic and horror comedy, and Series 3 was a nice mix of all three. You can check these out on my own blog page here: https://tinytoyshelf.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html

Recently NECA has been re-releasing older figures and newer ones in their Ultimate line, mostly from Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. Chucky, Michael Meyers, Pennywise (old and new) are also out there. If you're a fan of these characters and related ones, I'd check them out!

That about does it for what I have to offer this year! I wish I had more time to flesh this out a bit. Maybe I'll save that for next year. Anyways, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you all have a very Happy Halloween!
