Five Nights at Freddy's Mystery Minis - Series Glow 1 - Intro.

After the success of the first series of the Five Nights at Freddy's Mystery Minis, we got a re-release of several figures in glow-in-the-dark variations. I was never quite clear on what to call this series, so I just call it "Series Glow 1" (in case they ever do this again in the future). It was an interesting decision to me, considering how they could have made a few more new characters instead of re-using the same molds. We also got two glow-in-the-dark variants in the first series (although are slightly different than these). Fortunately this new series had 12 figures with 1/12 rarities, meaning you could complete the series with only one case!

One thing that interested me in this series was why they released it? Don't get me wrong, I like them, but why an all glow-in-the-dark series? I speculate this release had two reasons behind it. One reason was that they were getting positive feedback on the Mystery Minis and wanted to get the most mileage out of the new molds. The other reason is the timing in comparison to the new games. They may not have had enough time to turn around a new series or had enough of a character cast to warrant a completely brand new series. They were announced in November 2016, and released around December 2016 and January 2017. That's an unusually fast turn around time, so they were probably already in production/planned at least in mid 2016. For reference, Five Nights at Freddy's 4 was released in July 2015 and Sister Location was October 2016. The next series was a combination of FNaF 4 and FNaF:SL. Most likely this series was planned to hold us over while they worked on the next one.

Another reason for this release may be to somewhat imply these are the 'phantom' animatronics from FNaF 3. Funko made several Phantom characters in the form of a POP!, Plush, or Pint Size Hero, but no Phantom Mystery Minis at this point. They all seemed to have a dark green, metallic coloration. While these glow figures aren't metallic or darkly colored (with some exceptions), they do have a distinct green tone to them and give off a ghostly-vibe. Note that they don't look like how the phantoms are in the games though (although the phantoms usually had a slight green overtone). I just may be looking too much into it. Personally I consider these as the Phantom animtronics till Funko officially releases Phantom Mystery Minis (maybe in Series 4?).

Speaking of the design, their official promotional art depicted them as much more vibrant in green than their final product. They also depicted the FNaF 1 Cupcake! The final product turned out to be a glow version of the FNaF 2 Cupcake though. It was neat to see they did have a FNaF 1 Cupcake planned at one point though. Below is a comparison of their promotional art and the final product (sources provided too).

I don't have too much else to say. Look forward to the review for these figures in the near future! Thanks again for your time, and have a good one!
